This course provides an in-depth look at how to conduct a Business Impact Analysis (BIA). The class is for both BIA novices and experienced professionals. It provides you with the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the BIA. The course will help you further appreciate the how to ensure an insightful BIA. You will be taught two different approaches to a BIA – interviews and workshops - and the value of each. You will also be provided with an actual BIA survey and the sample results from the real-life BIAs of some clients.
Many years ago, Ted Brown was elected to the BCP Hall of Fame. In 2017, Ted Brown received a BCP Lifetime Achievement Award. In the same year, he was also awarded "Consultant of the Year"! These awards were partly due to innovation and leadership in Business Continuity. KETCHConsulting’s proprietary BIA Workshops are an example of this.
The BIA is the backbone of an effective BCMS. Whether executed by a BCP practitioner or consultant, all BIAs start with a survey. Surveys alone result in ”ties” for who is most critical, who is first for recovery, who should get the most resources, etc.
KETCHConsulting’s BIA Workshops break those ties by reviewing those surveys in workshops of four or five departments comparing results, dependencies, impacts, workarounds and so forth. Thus, the data is peer vetted and the results always change, with the Technology Recovery Time Objectives (TRTO) frequently being extended. This extension results in a dramatic reduction in the IT (DR) TRTO recovery requirements, saving significant dollars.
